New York Times bestselling author Tamar Geller is, as Oprah says, “A Life Coach for Dogs and their People.” Known for her innovative methods, enthusiasm, and celebrity clients such as Ben Affleck, Jon Stewart, Ellen, Julianne Hough, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and of course Oprah, Tamar has transformed lives and impacted relationships not only for dogs but also for the people who love them. The Loved Dog™ method that Tamar created 30 years ago is based on the knowledge she acquired as an intelligence officer in the Israeli Special Forces and also from the time she spent observing wolves in the wild.
Based on the time Tamar spent observing the wolves in the wild, she rejects the outdated concept of teaching dogs to obey five commands, and instead Tamar is teaching dogs essential life skills. Living as a part of a human family, in a world and culture different than their own, dogs have to adjust the way they evaluate situations and people, as well as their behavior. The key is to empower them to know how to self regulate and make good decisions, in the same way human toddlers are taught to do the same.
Tamar and The Loved Dog™ method builds a relationship based on love and devotion that goes both ways. Learning through fun games, clear communication, mutual respect and fun. Rejecting the painful collars and choke chains that have been common tools of dog trainers for decades, Tamar honors the wisdom and greatness of dogs and educates with kindness and compassion (after all she knows first hand the struggles of being a foreigner to a culture). This is the only training method endorsed by The Humane Society of the United States.
“Dogs are amazingly sensitive and intuitive creatures,” Tamar says. “If you use stress-free, game-based coaching (similar to we use with children) you will empower them to be all that they can be and, in return, not only will your dog be well-mannered and joy to be around, but he or she will be your biggest fan.”
Preferring the term “life coach” to “dog trainer,” and “devoted” to “obedient,” Tamar provided insight to millions of dog enthusiasts nationwide as the resident dog expert on The Today Show and on The Oprah Winfrey Show, in addition to CNN’s Larry King Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Rachael Ray Show, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, E!, LIVE with Regis and Kelly and 20/20. She can also be seen in the pages of USA Today, The New York Times Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, In Style, People, US Weekly, GQ, Men’s Health, LA Weekly amongst others.
Driven by her desire to improve the lives of people and animals in need by nurturing the power of dogs’ healing power, Tamar founded The Loved World Foundation by Tamar Geller. With her background as a former intelligence officer in the Israeli Special Forces and understanding first-hand the challenges of being a veteran, she created the Operation Heroes & Hounds™ program. The program was established in 2007 to aid injured members of the United States military suffering from physical and non-visible wounds. She also created “Another Chance for Love”TM which helps juvenile prisoners develop self-esteem and life skills by lovingly and compassionately coaching the shelter dogs with The Loved Dog™ method.
In addition to advancing the programs of her foundation, Tamar is an in-demand public speaker with her fun “Unleash Your Life” presentation, teaching companies, organizations, parents, and singles how to understand the “other” behavior and how to use that understanding to empower others to build strong relationships and strong teams.
Tamar’s first book, The Loved Dog: The Playful Nonaggressive Way to Teach Your Dog Good Behavior (Simon and Schuster) is a New York Times best seller and was translated to many languages. Her second book, 30 Days to a Well-Mannered Dog, is currently available online and in bookstores.
Her extraordinary vision led her to open The Loved Dog Center, Southern California’s first cage-free doggy day care kennels and boarding facility in 1996. This concept was ahead of its time and but can now be found throughout cities across the United States and the world.
